About Us

Our Story

VoxVolo is about making elected governments work better. Unlike others, we do not think democracy is profoundly broken. It simply has not scaled up well for the number of voters it now serves and in how it addresses the complex issues of the modern world.

Through the judicious application of modern information technology to these core issues, VoxVolo holds the promise of making democracy efficient, effective and engaging to a broad population.

We think that rather than 15 minutes of hasty consideration every few years at election time, democracy can and should be an ongoing conversation resulting in a deeper connection between us and those for whom we vote.

“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.”

Winston Churchill

"I have felt for a long time that the way we govern ourselves had some very practical limitations. Like many voters I was frustrated by the fact that my only concrete opportunity for input came every four or five years, and that was in the form of my vote. With that cast, I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I thought I could help my case by being a frequent letter writer, but then began to recognize a pattern of platitudes in the responses that convinced me they simply were not making a difference. It then occurred to me democracy hasn’t really undergone a technology upgrade…ever. I wanted an ongoing conversation with my government and VoxVolo is the response to that." — Terence C. Gannon, Founder and President

Ralph Klein was a polarizing political figure in Alberta, Canada where he was Premier from 1992 through 2006. History will be kind to Ralph because with him, what you saw was what you got. He was famous for pointing out, particularly when doing something unpopular, that the unpopular thing he was going to do was precisely what he said he was going to do, if elected.

Not this one. Maybe on Mars? I hear we are going there. But as soon as that first Martian colony of two or more is established and some sort of social order is set up, you can be sure that promises will get made and the argument will begin about whether they were kept or not. Making, keeping and breaking promises is intrinsic to human nature.

The way we democratically govern ourselves doesn’t make sense. If we are seriously contemplating getting into a car that doesn’t have a driver, for heaven's sake, why on earth would we govern ourselves with a system that has not fundamentally changed in a century or more? It seems preposterous that often on the strength of little more than vague commitments and charisma we send our elected leaders off for years at a time and pay little attention until the next election rolls around.
